Patrick Whitlock, MD, PhD

Dr. Patrick Whitlock is the Director, Hip Preservation and Professor Orthopaedic Surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and Guerin Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. He is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in treating children, adolescents, and young adults with a variety of hip-related conditions using arthroscopic and open surgical procedures.

He received his medical degree from the Drexel University College of Medicine and my PhD in Chemical and Materials Engineering from the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering, completed orthopaedic residency at Wake Forest Health Sciences, and completed fellowships in Pediatric Orthopaedics at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the Maurice E. Muller Foundation of North America European Traveling Fellowship in Hip Reconstruction in Switzerland, Denmark, and Italy. In 2022, he was awarded the Harris/ANCHOR/Washington University Career Development Award in Hip Preservation. In addition to clinical work, he is involved in both clinical and translational research. As a surgeon-scientist, his research is focused on the development of naturally derived biomaterials and additive manufacturing to treat avascular necrosis and large osteochondral defects of the hip.
