Paul E. Beaule, MD, FRCSC, FAAOS, CHE specializes in joint preserving surgery of the hip as well as arthroplasty of the hip. Originally from Québec city, he did all his university studies including his medical training and residence at the University of Ottawa (1986-1998) and completed two years of fellowship in 1998 with Harlan Amstutz and Thomas Schmalzried at the Joint Replacement Institute in Los Angeles and 1999 with Joel Matta at Good Samaritan Hospital also in Los Angeles. He was Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA from 2000-2005 prior to his return to the Ottawa Hospital, University of Ottawa.

He is Professor of Surgery, scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, currently Chief of Staff at Hawkesbury and District General Hospital and Director of Hip Preservation Fellowship. He served as Head of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery from 2015-2021, Director of Research and Innovation for the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery from 2021-2023 and the Past President of the Canadian Orthopaedic Research Society (2019) and ISHA: The Hip Preservation Society (2023/24). He is a recipient of the William H. Harris Award twice, the Hip Society Award six times, and the Kappa Delta Elizabeth Winston Award twice. He is a member of North American, European and International Hip Society. He is currently, 1st Vice-President of the Canadian Orthopedic Association.

He is among the top 1% of most-cited authors in the world, in the fields of Orthopaedics, Biomedical Engineering and Clinical Medicine with over 400 peer-reviewed papers, with a h-index of 80. He edited over five text books on the subject of hip surgery. He has presented more than 450 posters/podiums to conferences and given more than 200 lectures and workshops in several areas in orthopedic research.
